Job Purpose
The Communications Associate will support the preparation and implementation of communication and awareness-raising (AWR) plans and campaigns for IOM Venezuela. This includes managing social media channels, drafting and disseminating various communication materials such as press releases, human interest stories, and newsletters, and assisting with website updates. The role also involves supporting the creation of audiovisual content, liaising with media, and providing logistical support for communication activities. The aim is to enhance IOM's visibility and effectively communicate its mission and projects to diverse audiences, contributing to the organization's overall communication strategy and outreach efforts.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include supporting the development and execution of communication and awareness-raising plans and campaigns. The Associate will manage IOM Venezuela's social media channels, including content creation, scheduling, monitoring engagement, and reporting. This involves drafting, editing, and disseminating various communication materials such as press briefing notes, human interest stories, blogs, and digital newsletters. The role also entails assisting in the preparation of reports, publications, and promotional materials, including basic graphic design. Furthermore, the Associate will support audiovisual content creation, photography, and videography activities, manage consent forms, and liaise with external service providers. Media relations support, website updates, and logistical assistance for communication events are also key duties. Collaboration with regional and headquarters communications teams and participation in UN Communications Group meetings are expected.
Work Experience
Required experience includes supporting communication, information, or awareness-raising activities, and preparing/editing communication materials and reports. Proficiency in English writing and editing is essential. Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop (or similar) is required, with experience in graphic design and video editing software being advantageous. Experience with social media platforms for communication and website content updates is also beneficial. Experience working with international organizations is an advantage.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Premier Pro) or similar graphic/video editing software. Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram) and basic analytical tools. Basic knowledge of web content management systems and newsletter dissemination tools (e.g., Mailchimp). Strong attention to detail, good communication and report writing skills, and general computer literacy are essential. Knowledge of migration-related subject areas is also noted.
