Field Operations Assistant (site Development)
Organizational Context
The Site Development Unit in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, is a key operational component of the International Organization for Migration's (IOM) Rohingya Refugee Response. Funded by international donors, the unit focuses on site planning and infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, health facilities, and camp rehabilitation. This role supports the implementation of these critical activities.
Job Purpose
This role is designed to assist in the implementation of site development projects within the Rohingya Refugee Response in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. The Field Operations Assistant will provide crucial support for new site development, enhancement of existing sites, and small to medium-scale community building initiatives. Working under the guidance of the Site Development Operations Officer, the incumbent will contribute to the successful execution of infrastructure projects, ensuring they meet quality standards and project timelines. This position is integral to improving living conditions and community facilities within the camps and surrounding areas.
Responsibilities
Assist in the implementation of site development projects as directed by the Site Development Operations Officer. Conduct regular field visits to monitor construction progress and quality of infrastructure, reporting findings. Provide technical support for IOM construction work, including site assessments, BoQ calculations, and monitoring. Perform field surveys, collect data, and assist in preparing civil designs under the guidance of the Senior Field Operations Assistant. Monitor daily activities and progress of construction projects, coordinating with the Site Management team and other Site Development actors. Liaise with community members to promote participation and ownership, and support community engagement initiatives. Assist in hazard identification and the implementation of risk reduction measures. Provide capacity building support to field staff and cash-for-work groups. Review vendor competencies and track construction progress against work plans. Coordinate with local government agencies and stakeholders to facilitate project implementation, traveling to various sites as needed.
Work Experience
Requires professional experience in civil infrastructure implementation, managing medium to large-scale construction and community-based projects, and working with local communities. Experience with International Organizations/NGOs, camp rehabilitation, site development, and cash-for-work programs is advantageous. Experience in contract administration/quantity surveying and knowledge of common engineering software (AutoCAD, GIS) are a plus. Experience with local construction materials and technologies is mandatory.
