Senior Liaison Associate
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is an intergovernmental organization playing a leading role in migration. With 166 member states and offices in over 100 countries, IOM collaborates with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners to promote humane and orderly migration. Since 2006, IOM has been present in Mauritania. The Senior Liaison Assistant will be based in Nouakchott, reporting to the Chief of Project (Migration Governance).
Job Purpose
The Senior Liaison Assistant, based in Nouakchott, is responsible for the execution and coordination of liaison functions within the Country Office (CO). This role supports the Chief of Project (Migration Governance) by ensuring smooth and coordinated implementation of IOM's activities. The position involves regular engagement with national, regional, and local authorities, as well as facilitating official meetings, workshops, and technical committees. The assistant will also support program managers by facilitating the acquisition of necessary authorizations and administrative approvals for field activities, ensuring compliance with national requirements. This role is crucial for maintaining effective collaboration with various stakeholders, including implementation partners, NGOs, UN agencies, and civil society organizations, to foster operational synergies and coordinated intervention delivery.
Responsibilities
The Senior Liaison Assistant will ensure regular liaison with national, regional, and local authorities to facilitate the coordinated implementation of IOM activities. This includes supporting program managers by participating in official meetings, government workshops, and technical committees to align with migration-related initiatives. The role involves facilitating the acquisition of necessary authorizations and administrative approvals for field activities, ensuring compliance with national requirements. Close coordination with national structures involved in migration management, security, protection, and health is essential. The assistant will maintain proactive relationships with implementation partners, NGOs, UN agencies, and civil society organizations to foster effective collaboration. Responsibilities also include facilitating information sharing, coordinating logistical and administrative arrangements for high-level missions and events, and preparing official correspondence and meeting documentation. The role requires monitoring the operational context, analyzing trends, and preparing reports for stakeholders and Headquarters.
Work Experience
Basic knowledge of migration-related issues, including project coordination and management. A good understanding of internal and international migration challenges. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
