Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a leading global body committed to humane and orderly migration. This role supports IOM Cameroon's strategic engagement in migration governance, policy coherence, and evidence-based programming. The incumbent will contribute to national and regional policy processes, coordinate research, and strengthen institutional partnerships, including supporting IOM's expansion into São Tomé & Príncipe and Equatorial Guinea.
Job Purpose
This role supports IOM Cameroon's strategic engagement in migration governance, policy coherence, and evidence-based programming, operating under the direct supervision of the Chief of Mission. The Senior Migration Policy and Coordination Associate will contribute significantly to national and regional policy development, coordinate crucial research and data initiatives, and foster robust institutional partnerships. The position plays a key part in advancing IOM's mission to manage migration challenges, enhance understanding of migration issues, promote socio-economic development through migration, and uphold the dignity and well-being of migrants. The role also extends to supporting IOM's operational expansion into São Tomé & Príncipe and Equatorial Guinea, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate project implementation, monitoring activities, and analyzing challenges to adjust work plans. Research, compile, and analyze data across various units for harmonized reporting, ensuring conflict sensitivity and alignment with government expectations. Monitor budget expenditures and maintain financial records. Coordinate financial, administrative, and technical project aspects according to IOM policies and donor requirements. Plan and conduct capacity-building workshops for internal and external parties. Liaise with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, and other stakeholders. Prepare correspondence, briefing notes, presentations, and narrative/financial reports. Identify and document best practices and lessons learned, contributing to SOPs, policies, and new project development. Support integration into UN planning frameworks like CCA and UNSDCF. Supervise and train reporting staff. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Experience
Requires experience liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups such as migrants, refugees, and IDPs is essential. Prior experience in a multicultural setting with international humanitarian organizations is advantageous. Proven experience in migration policy areas, inter-agency coordination, stakeholder engagement, and policy dialogue is necessary. Background in project management, capacity building, and results-based programming is required.
