Job Purpose
The Protection Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the AVR Hub team by identifying and reporting protection-related needs of beneficiaries. This involves conducting protection screenings, providing essential information and guidance, and assisting in the implementation of care plans. The position contributes to ensuring the well-being and safety of vulnerable individuals and families by facilitating referrals to specialized services and maintaining accurate records in compliance with IOM's protection principles and data protection standards. The role is integral to the provision of humane and orderly migration services, supporting beneficiaries throughout their stay and preparation for departure.
Responsibilities
The Protection Assistant is responsible for supporting the AVR Hub team by reporting protection needs and concerns of beneficiaries, adhering to IOM protection principles. Key duties include conducting protection screenings, documenting vulnerabilities, and providing basic information and guidance to beneficiaries for daily life and departure preparation. The role involves assisting in the implementation and follow-up of individual protection or care plans, coordinating with relevant staff and authorities. Responsibilities also include recording and communicating protection needs in line with confidentiality and data protection standards, facilitating referrals to specialized services, and supporting coordination with internal teams and external service providers. Additionally, the assistant will organize information activities, draft case-related notes, and undertake other assigned duties to ensure comprehensive support for beneficiaries.
Work Experience
Experience working with migrants and/or refugees, or familiarity with a multi-cultural environment, is desirable. Previous experience with vulnerable migrants or in semi-independent living units is an advantage. Knowledge or experience in child protection is also considered beneficial.
Skills
Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills within a multi-cultural setting. Strong organizational and administrative abilities, including maintaining accurate records and handling sensitive information confidentially. Demonstrated strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles. Good computer literacy is also required.
