Senior Project Associate
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN-related organization established in 1951, promotes humane and orderly migration globally. It supports governments and migrants by saving lives, protecting people on the move, and facilitating pathways for regular migration. This role is situated within IOM Kazakhstan, under the Chief of Mission and the National Programme Officer on Immigration and Border Governance.
Job Purpose
This role is accountable for assisting in the implementation of Immigration and Border Governance Projects within IOM Astana. The position involves supporting project planning, coordination, and monitoring, as well as compiling and analyzing data to highlight key issues. The incumbent will act as a focal point for administrative coordination, liaising with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution. This includes drafting reports, managing correspondence, organizing events, and providing general support for project development and implementation, contributing to IOM's mission of promoting humane migration.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include assisting in the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of project activities. This involves compiling, analyzing, and presenting project-related data, and monitoring budget implementation. The role requires acting as a liaison for administrative coordination, drafting status reports, and managing correspondence. Organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions, and preparing relevant materials are also essential. The position involves responding to information requests, maintaining project files, and liaising with local authorities, partners, and other stakeholders. Monitoring implementing partners, contributing to SOP development, and potentially guiding or supervising other staff are also part of the duties.
Work Experience
Experience is required in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups such as migrants and refugees is also necessary. Prior experience with international humanitarian organizations or in a multicultural setting is advantageous.
Skills
In-depth knowledge of migration-related subjects, understanding of UN and bilateral donor programming, knowledge of financial rules and regulations, experience in project development and event organization, and skills in research, analysis, and evaluation.
