Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) operates five Accommodation Centers for Unaccompanied Minors (Shelters) in Greece, providing essential services including accommodation, basic needs, legal and psychosocial support, and educational programs. This role is within the "Greece Programme - Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2021-2027" and reports to the Shelter Coordinator, aiming to enhance educational activities for unaccompanied migrant children.
Job Purpose
The purpose of the Educator role is to support the implementation and improvement of educational programs for Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMC) within IOM's Accommodation Centers in Greece. The role contributes to the holistic development of UMC by facilitating their integration into formal education, providing Greek language instruction, and organizing supplementary learning and recreational activities. This position is crucial for ensuring that UMC receive the necessary educational support to foster their well-being and future opportunities, aligning with IOM's mission to promote humane and orderly migration and support vulnerable populations.
Responsibilities
The Educator is responsible for assessing the educational needs of each minor and developing individualized educational plans. This includes registering children in schools, monitoring their attendance in cooperation with legal guardians, and providing at least six hours per week of Greek language instruction. The role also involves planning and implementing remedial teaching, vocational training enrollment, and organizing educational excursions and recreational activities. Additionally, the Educator will maintain individual records, map local educational resources, collaborate with community actors, and assist children with health, hygiene, and personal habits, while performing other assigned duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of one year of relevant professional experience is desirable. Previous experience working with children is considered an asset for this role.
Skills
Excellent communication and negotiation skills, personal commitment, efficiency, and flexibility. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Experience in developing and delivering life skills and educational training programs for children. Computer literacy in standard software applications (MS Office). Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles. Willingness to work varied shifts, including on-call duty. A valid driver's license is an advantage.
