Organizational Context
IOM, established in 1951, is a leading UN agency promoting humane and orderly migration. It operates five Accommodation Centers for Unaccompanied Minors (UMC) in Greece, providing essential services including psychosocial support. This role supports the "Operation of K.F.A.A. Ilion" project, aiming to ensure 24/7 shelter operations through a pool of suitable candidates.
Job Purpose
The Psychologist will provide crucial psychosocial services to Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMC) within IOM's Accommodation Centers in Greece. This role is integral to the "Operation of K.F.A.A. Ilion" project, contributing to the well-being and development of vulnerable youth. By offering specialized psychological support, the incumbent will help UMC manage mental health challenges, cope with crises, improve interpersonal relationships, and develop life skills. The position also involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care and facilitate the children's integration and eventual departure from the center, aligning with IOM's commitment to protecting people on the move.
Responsibilities
The Psychologist will conduct mental health assessments and evaluations for UMC, and organize/facilitate individual and group support sessions. They will participate in planning and implementing interventions focused on children's awareness and development, providing direct psychosocial support in collaboration with the social worker and scientific team. This includes addressing anxiety, anger, conflict, and crisis coping mechanisms, and fostering better interpersonal relationships. The role also involves referring children for medical care when necessary, mapping available mental health services, and acting as a Case Worker. As a Case Worker, responsibilities include implementing Individual Action Plans, conducting Best Interest Assessments, maintaining child files, supporting the entry process, facilitating integration into activities, and preparing children for departure.
Work Experience
A minimum of one year of relevant professional experience is desirable. Previous experience working with children is considered an asset.
Skills
Excellent communication and negotiation skills, personal commitment, efficiency, and flexibility. Ability to work with minimal supervision and under difficult conditions. Good computer literacy. Willingness to work flexible hours, including shifts, holidays, and weekends. A valid driver's license with at least five years of driving experience is advantageous.
