National Project Officer
Organizational Context
IOM, established in 1951, is a leading UN agency promoting humane and orderly migration. It collaborates with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners to save lives, protect migrants, and facilitate regular migration pathways. This role, reporting to the Chief of Mission in the Dominican Republic, oversees and coordinates IOM's humanitarian response operations.
Job Purpose
This role is responsible for the oversight and coordination of IOM's operations addressing humanitarian challenges within the Dominican Republic. The incumbent ensures that all activities are developed and executed effectively, efficiently, and in a well-coordinated manner. The position contributes to IOM's mandate of promoting humane and orderly migration, saving lives, protecting people on the move, driving solutions to displacement, and facilitating regular migration pathways. The role supports IOM's commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace, leveraging the full potential of migration and strengthening support for migrants.
Responsibilities
Key duties include coordinating and monitoring operational, administrative, and financial aspects of projects according to IOM policies and donor requirements. The role involves keeping the supervisor informed of project status, identifying implementation gaps, and suggesting improvements. Responsibilities extend to participating in the development of work plans, budgets, and M&E tools. Data collection, verification, analysis, and updating information management systems are crucial. The officer will coordinate the preparation and dissemination of project reports, liaise with donors, partners, UN agencies, and government counterparts. Additionally, the role involves contributing to capacity-building activities, attending relevant forums, participating in proposal development, supervising project staff, and undertaking duty travel for project implementation and monitoring.
Work Experience
Required experience includes liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups such as migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, and victims of trafficking is also necessary. Prior work experience in a multicultural setting with international humanitarian organizations or government institutions is considered an advantage.
Skills
Excellent leadership, coordination, and information management skills. Sound judgment for data interpretation, analysis, and rapid decision-making. Ability to work effectively in high-pressure, rapidly changing environments. Proficiency in MS Office package (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
