Job Purpose
The Driver role is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of IOM staff and visitors. This position directly supports IOM's operational activities by providing reliable driving services, adhering strictly to UN safety and security regulations. The driver is responsible for the maintenance of the assigned vehicle, ensuring its roadworthiness and compliance with all legal requirements. By managing vehicle logistics, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring timely deliveries, the driver contributes to the smooth functioning of IOM's mission in the field, facilitating essential movements and operations while upholding the organization's commitment to safety and security.
Responsibilities
Provide secure and reliable driving services for IOM staff and visitors, adhering to UN Department of Safety and Security rules and authorized routing. Manage daily vehicle maintenance, including checks of tires, brakes, engine oil, and battery, and ensure timely registration, insurance, and servicing. Perform minor repairs, arrange for major ones, and maintain vehicle cleanliness. Ensure vehicles are fueled for trips and maintain accurate daily logbooks. Deliver and collect goods, mail, and documents as assigned. Negotiate and coordinate with local authorities for vehicle movements when necessary. Ensure vehicles are used solely for official business and handle accident procedures according to local regulations. Report any trip-related issues to the Fleet Manager and maintain confidentiality in discussions. Take measures to mitigate security threats to passengers and report any apparent problems during trips.
Work Experience
A valid driving license is mandatory. Candidates should possess adequate knowledge of local traffic laws and routes, proficiency in defensive driving techniques, and prior experience working with IOM or other international organizations is desirable.
