Protection Caseworker, AVR Component 2
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Guyana seeks a Protection Caseworker to support its AVR Component 2 project. This role operates under the Chief of Mission and the direct supervision of the Protection & Liaison Officer, focusing on migrant protection and assistance within the region.
Job Purpose
The Protection Caseworker is responsible for conducting individual protection screenings of arriving migrants, identifying vulnerabilities, and developing individualized case plans. This role involves providing comprehensive case management services, including follow-up, referral coordination for specialized assistance (legal, health, psychosocial), and ensuring the delivery of post-arrival services and voluntary return support. The caseworker will also assist in implementing safe and dignified post-arrival assistance, maintain accurate data in IOM's case management systems, and support communication with beneficiaries to ensure they understand available assistance. This position contributes to safeguarding the rights and well-being of vulnerable migrants.
Responsibilities
Conduct individual protection screenings for arriving migrants, identifying vulnerabilities and protection risks such as GBV, human trafficking, and needs of children or individuals with health issues. Develop and implement individualized case plans, providing ongoing case management, referrals to specialized services (legal, health, psychosocial), and monitoring assistance delivery. Assist in the implementation of safe and dignified post-arrival assistance, ensuring privacy and confidentiality. Maintain accurate data collection and case notes in IOM's case management systems, adhering to data protection standards. Coordinate with internal teams and external partners (NGOs, UN agencies, government) to enhance referral networks and service provision. Support communication with beneficiaries, ensuring clear and culturally appropriate messaging. Undertake duty travel within the Caribbean for operational support and monitoring. Assist in preparing reports, contributing to protection assessments, and monitoring project indicators.
Work Experience
Required experience includes protection case management for vulnerable populations (including GBV survivors, trafficking victims, and at-risk children) in humanitarian or migration contexts. Experience with referrals and coordination with local protection actors, NGOs, or government services is essential. Experience with programs involving movement operations is advantageous, as is prior work with IOM or other UN agencies on assisted voluntary return and reintegration programs.
