The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a UN-related agency promoting humane and orderly migration. This Communications Officer role supports these efforts in Chuuk State.
Job Purpose
The Communications Officer will support the implementation of communications and visibility activities for IOM's reconstruction, resilience, and climate adaptation programmes in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia. The role involves developing communications materials and outreach initiatives to showcase programme achievements and community impact. The officer will produce high-quality content, ensuring compliance with IOM branding and donor visibility requirements, under the supervision of the Programme Support Unit Coordinator and in coordination with the Head of Sub-Office. This position aims to enhance public understanding and visibility of IOM's vital work in the North Pacific region, particularly in the context of climate change impacts and disaster recovery.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement communications plans for reconstruction and resilience projects in Chuuk to enhance public understanding and visibility of IOM’s work. Produce high-quality public information materials, including human-interest stories, press releases, and social media content. Create multimedia content such as videos, photographs, and graphics, managing all stages of production. Draft, edit, and disseminate timely information materials like fact sheets and project updates. Support the development of visibility materials, ensuring IOM and donor branding. Provide communications support for programme activities and public events, aiming for appropriate visibility and media coverage. Offer technical assistance to personnel on communications tools. Contribute to key messaging and crisis communications products. Establish and maintain relationships with local media and stakeholders. Monitor local media and provide updates. Research emerging communications trends and platforms to enhance outreach and engagement.
Work Experience
Required experience includes digital content creation (photography, videography, graphic design, editing) and producing communications content for humanitarian, development, governmental, or international organizations. Experience working in the Pacific region is considered an advantage.
Skills
Excellent skills in drafting, editing, graphic design, and video production. Demonstrated photojournalism skills. Understanding of social media and experience with UN media partners. Ability to manage operational tasks while contributing to communications initiatives. Creative and strategic thinking. Detail-oriented with strong follow-up and reporting skills.
