Job Purpose
This role supports IOM's Global Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) program, which provides safe, dignified, and consent-based return assistance to migrants. The program also offers post-arrival support. The Senior Protection Case Worker, AVR Component 2, based in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, operates under the Chief of Mission and Protection Coordinator AVR. This position is crucial for ensuring the effective implementation of AVR protection activities, contributing to the well-being and rights of migrants undergoing voluntary return processes.
Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate a team of Protection Case Workers (AVR), managing workloads, assigning cases, and providing technical support. Oversee case management services, ensuring quality assurance and compliance with IOM standards and tools. Maintain accurate data collection and case notes in IOM's systems, upholding data protection and confidentiality. Coordinate with internal units (health, MHPSS, operations) and other IOM missions to ensure timely service provision and address operational constraints. Participate in protection coordination forums and collaborate with external partners to enhance referral networks. Assist in preparing reports, contributing to protection assessments, and monitoring project indicators. Conduct duty travel for field visits and service monitoring.
Work Experience
Experience in protection case management, particularly for vulnerable groups like GBV survivors, trafficking victims, and at-risk children in humanitarian or migration contexts. Experience working with vulnerable individuals with complex needs, including returnees or deported migrants. Proven experience in referrals and coordination with local protection actors, NGOs, or government services. Experience with IOM or other UN agencies on AVR programs is preferred.
Skills
Knowledge of IOM and inter-agency protection standards and guidelines. Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. Ability to interact respectfully with migrants facing trauma or complex needs. Adaptability and good judgment in challenging conditions. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) and case management tools. Fluency in Spanish and English is required.
