Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN-related organization dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration. It operates globally, saving lives, protecting migrants, and facilitating pathways for regular migration. The Driver role is based in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, under the general supervision of the Chief of Mission and direct supervision of the Senior Finance Assistant.
Job Purpose
The Driver is responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation services for the IOM office in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. This role ensures the reliable movement of personnel and goods, contributing to the operational efficiency of the mission. The Driver must maintain assigned vehicles in good working condition, adhere strictly to traffic laws, and represent the organization professionally at all times. This position is crucial for supporting the daily activities and logistical needs of the IOM mission, ensuring timely and secure transit for official duties and representing IOM's commitment to operational excellence and safety.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include driving assigned IOM vehicles safely and efficiently, managing daily vehicle maintenance to ensure optimal working condition (checking tires, brakes, oil, etc.), and organizing minor repairs. The Driver will ensure vehicles are kept clean and undergo regular servicing. They will maintain an inventory of spare parts and conduct monthly stock checks. Responsibilities also involve identifying the most direct and safe routes, ensuring vehicles are used solely for official purposes, and accurately maintaining daily log sheets and monthly reports on mileage and fuel consumption. Additionally, the Driver must maintain confidentiality, ensure the security of personnel and IOM property, and assist with simple administrative tasks when needed.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of experience as a driver is required. Candidates should possess knowledge of driving regulations and experience operating various vehicle makes and models (manual and automatic). Basic vehicle repair skills and familiarity with radio, email, and telephone applications are also necessary.
