Senior Communications Associate
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) implements programmes in disaster preparedness, recovery, community resilience, and migration management across the North Pacific region, including the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), and Palau. This role, based in Majuro, RMI, supports programme visibility through high-quality communication products, adhering to IOM brand guidelines and donor requirements.
Job Purpose
This role is crucial for enhancing the visibility of IOM's programmes in the North Pacific, particularly in RMI and across FSM and Palau. The incumbent will produce high-quality communication and media products, ensuring alignment with IOM's brand guidelines and donor requirements. By liaising with programme managers and supporting content creation, the role directly contributes to the effective communication of IOM's work in disaster preparedness, recovery, community resilience, and migration management. This includes drafting human-interest stories, press materials, and social media content, as well as capturing visual media from project sites and events, thereby ensuring that IOM's impact and activities are appropriately showcased to stakeholders and the public.
Responsibilities
Support communication and visibility initiatives across RMI, FSM, and Palau, adhering to IOM guidelines and donor requirements. Liaise with programme managers to ensure smooth workflow and coverage of all programme areas. Draft various communication content, including human-interest stories, video scripts, social media captions, press briefing notes, and project briefs. Attend and cover programme events, creating related visibility content such as social media posts and press releases. Support the organization of international day events and conduct field visits to gather communications content, including interviews and visual media (photos, videos). Prepare visibility materials using tools like Canva, ensuring compliance with guidelines. Monitor local news, provide translations from Marshallese to English as needed, and perform other assigned duties.
Work Experience
Requires strong English writing, speaking, and editing experience. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Canva is essential. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and video editing is advantageous. Knowledge of social media content management, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks independently are necessary. Experience in a development or humanitarian environment is desirable.
