Senior Communications Associate
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) implements programs in disaster preparedness, recovery, community resilience, and migration management across the North Pacific region, including the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), and Palau. This role, based in Majuro, RMI, supports program visibility through high-quality communication products, adhering to IOM brand guidelines and donor requirements.
Job Purpose
This role is crucial for enhancing the visibility of IOM's programs in the North Pacific, particularly in the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI). The incumbent will produce high-quality communication and media materials that align with IOM's brand guidelines and donor expectations. By closely coordinating with program teams and supervisors, the position ensures that the impactful work of IOM in areas such as disaster preparedness, recovery, community resilience, and migration management is effectively communicated to relevant stakeholders and the public across RMI, FSM, and Palau.
Responsibilities
The Senior Communications Associate will support communication and visibility initiatives across RMI, FSM, and Palau, adhering to IOM guidelines and donor requirements. Key duties include liaising with program managers to ensure smooth workflow and coverage of all program areas. The role involves drafting various communication content, such as human-interest stories, video scripts, social media captions, press briefing notes, and project briefs. The associate will attend and cover program events, gather content from field visits through interviews and photography/videography, and prepare visibility materials using tools like Canva. Additionally, the role includes monitoring local news, providing translations, and supporting the organization of events.
Work Experience
Required experience includes strong writing, speaking, and editing skills in English, proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and Canva. Knowledge of video editing and social media content management is advantageous. Experience in a development or humanitarian setting is desirable. The role requires strong organizational skills for managing multiple tasks independently and the ability to design communication products and draft messages.
