Job Purpose
This role is responsible for providing medical support within the Voluntary Return and Reintegration Assistance (AVRR) program for migrants with known health issues returning to their home countries. The position operates in full compliance with IOM and Migration Health Division (MHD) procedures. The purpose is to ensure migrants receive necessary medical evaluations, travel arrangements, and continuity of care, facilitating their safe and healthy return.
Responsibilities
Key duties include reviewing medical histories, liaising with treating physicians, conducting clinical examinations to assess fitness for travel and decision-making capacity, and recommending further examinations or stabilization treatments. The role involves evaluating medical return feasibility in coordination with IOM country offices, developing care continuity plans, and determining necessary medical provisions for travel. This includes coordinating with IOM operations teams on travel routes, completing airline medical forms, and potentially participating in the recruitment and training of medical escorts. Responsibilities also extend to liaising with medical escorts, reviewing their reports, preparing medical kits, and maintaining relevant statistics for quality control.
Work Experience
Required experience includes emergency medicine and proven experience in internal medicine or a sub-specialty within a multidisciplinary hospital. Experience in conducting medical assessments, writing medical reports, and coordinating patient care is essential. Experience in migration health, humanitarian health programs, or return and reintegration assistance is highly desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in French (oral and written) is required. Knowledge of English, local languages, and Arabic is an asset. Skills include clinical medicine, patient safety principles, infection prevention and control, in-flight physiology knowledge, and understanding of medical protocols, patient rights, and ethical principles. Strong organizational skills, results orientation, and collaboration abilities are also key.
