Social Worker
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN-related agency dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration. It collaborates with governmental and non-governmental partners to save lives, protect migrants, and facilitate regular migration pathways. This role supports project activities under the supervision of the National Project Officer and Project Assistant.
Job Purpose
This role is crucial for assisting the coordinator in the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of project activities. The Social Worker will be responsible for daily monitoring of service providers to ensure contractual obligations and beneficiary needs are met. This includes cooperating with medical and psychosocial teams, reporting field challenges, and ensuring all actions align with IOM's regulations and SOPs. The position requires conducting vulnerability assessments, addressing protection needs by referring cases to competent agencies, and managing individual cases with follow-up and updated case files. The role also involves mapping services, developing action plans, participating in team meetings, and escorting beneficiaries when necessary, all contributing to the effective delivery of IOM's migration support services.
Responsibilities
Monitor and supervise daily service provider activities to ensure compliance with contracts and beneficiary needs. Collaborate with medical and psychosocial teams on daily tasks requiring their assistance. Report field challenges to the supervisor, escalating critical issues for medical or psychosocial support. Ensure all duties adhere to IOM's internal rules, regulations, and SOPs. Conduct vulnerability assessments for migrants and refugees, addressing protection needs and referring cases to appropriate agencies. Manage protection cases, including those of vulnerable groups like women and children at risk, ensuring quality case management and follow-up. Maintain comprehensive and updated case files, informing beneficiaries of case progress. Record and update all cases in the project database in a timely manner. Regularly map available on-site and off-site services to ensure migrant and refugee access. Develop individual action plans for migrants and refugees. Support and participate in regular team meetings to discuss case management, risks, challenges, and service provision gaps. Escort beneficiaries to public health facilities as requested by the supervisor.
Work Experience
Previous experience in a similar role is preferred. Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees is advantageous. Experience working in a multi-cultural environment is also beneficial.
Skills
Proficiency in standard office software (e.g., MS Office). Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines. Fluency in English and Greek (oral and written) is required.
