Job Purpose
This role is crucial for supporting the IOM Data and Research Team in the successful implementation of data and research operations-related projects within Ethiopia. The incumbent will be responsible for identifying information sources and key informants to gather relevant data. They will systematically collect and verify information, ensuring its quality by reviewing questionnaires post-interview. A key aspect of the role involves assessing situations in high mobility areas and Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs) through direct observation and triangulating data to support analysis. The position operates under the supervision of the Programme Manager of Data and Research unit and direct supervision of Senior Project Associate (DRU-Operations) and Field Project Associate.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include identifying reliable sources and key informants for data collection. The enumerator will conduct DTM/FM assessments at Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs) as per operational plans. This involves assessing situations in high mobility areas and FMPs through direct observation, counting, and surveys, triangulating information for analysis. Ensuring data quality by systematically verifying and correcting questionnaires post-interview is essential. The role also requires collecting GPS coordinates for observation points, liaising with humanitarian and governmental partners, and reporting daily on activities, encountered issues, and recommendations. Adherence to IOM’s Data Protection Principles and performing other assigned duties are also required.
Work Experience
Requires experience in liaising with governmental and international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups such as migrants and refugees is needed. Knowledge of GPS tools, field-level data collection, and experience in rural/remote areas of Ethiopia are essential. Familiarity with ODK and Kobo technology is desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access). Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to transfer knowledge on data collection, processing, and analysis. Knowledge of Geographic Positioning System (GPS) tools. Familiarity with Open Data Kit (ODK) and Kobo technology.
