Job Purpose
This position is crucial for supporting the IOM Data and Research Team in Ethiopia, specifically in the successful implementation of IOM's data research operations. The role involves identifying information sources and key informants, collecting relevant data, and ensuring its quality through systematic verification and correction of questionnaires. The incumbent will assess situations in high mobility areas and Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs) via direct observation and data triangulation to facilitate analysis. This function directly contributes to IOM's mission of understanding and responding to migration dynamics, providing essential data for informed decision-making and program development.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include identifying reliable information sources and key informants for data collection. The role involves conducting DTM/FM assessments at Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs) and high mobility areas through direct observation, counting, and surveys, triangulating information for analysis. Ensuring data quality by systematically verifying and correcting questionnaires is essential. The enumerator will collect GPS coordinates for observation points, liaise with humanitarian and governmental partners, and report daily activities, encountered realities, and recommendations to the DTM/FM Team Leader. Adherence to IOM’s Data Protection Principles and performing other assigned duties are also required.
Work Experience
Requires experience liaising with governmental and international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups such as migrants and refugees is necessary. Prior experience in a multicultural setting with international humanitarian organizations is advantageous. Knowledge of GPS tools, field-level data collection, research, and community-based approaches, particularly in rural Ethiopia, is essential. Proficiency in MS Office suite and familiarity with ODK/Kobo technology are required.
Skills
In-depth knowledge of migration-related subjects, understanding of UN and bilateral donor programming, and knowledge of financial rules and regulations.
