This role supports IOM's Data and Research Team in Ethiopia, contributing to the successful implementation of data and research operations.
Job Purpose
This position is crucial for supporting the IOM Data and Research Team in Ethiopia, ensuring the effective implementation of data and research operations. The role involves identifying information sources, collecting and verifying data through direct observation and interviews, and assessing situations in high mobility areas and flow monitoring points. The incumbent will systematically verify and correct questionnaires, triangulate information to facilitate analysis, and contribute to the overall quality and integrity of IOM's migration data. This function is vital for understanding migration dynamics and informing IOM's programmatic responses and policy advice.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include identifying reliable information sources and key informants for data collection. The role involves conducting DTM/FM assessments at flow monitoring points (FMPs) and high mobility areas through direct observation, counting, and surveys, ensuring data quality by systematically verifying and correcting questionnaires. The enumerator will collect GPS coordinates for observation points, liaise with humanitarian and governmental partners, and report daily on activities, realities, and encountered issues, providing relevant recommendations. Adherence to IOM’s Data Protection Principles is mandatory. The position also requires performing other assigned duties.
Work Experience
Required experience includes liaising with governmental and international institutions, working with vulnerable groups, and field-level data collection. Knowledge of GPS tools, ODK, Kobo technology, and MS Office Suite is essential. Experience in rural/remote areas of Ethiopia and with international humanitarian organizations is advantageous.
Skills
Proficiency in data collection, verification, and analysis. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of migration-related subjects, UN/bilateral donor programming, and financial rules is desirable. Computer literacy in MS Office suite is required.
