This role supports IOM's Data and Research Team in Ethiopia, contributing to the successful implementation of data research operations.
Job Purpose
This position is crucial for supporting the IOM Data and Research Team in Ethiopia, ensuring the successful implementation of data research operations. The role involves identifying information sources and key informants, collecting relevant data, and ensuring its quality through systematic verification and correction of questionnaires. The incumbent will assess situations at high mobility areas and Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs) via direct observation and triangulate information to aid analysis. This function directly contributes to IOM's mandate of understanding and responding to migration dynamics.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include identifying reliable information sources and key informants. The role involves conducting DTM/FM assessments at observation points and Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs) as per operational plans. Assessing situations through direct observation, counting, and surveys at high mobility areas and FMPs, and triangulating information for analysis is essential. Ensuring data quality by systematically verifying and correcting forms post-interview, and collecting GPS coordinates for observation points are critical tasks. The position requires liaising with humanitarian and governmental partners, reporting daily activities and encountered issues, and respecting IOM’s Data Protection Principles. Other assigned duties may also be performed.
Work Experience
Required experience includes liaising with governmental and international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups such as migrants and refugees is needed. Prior experience in a multicultural setting with international humanitarian organizations is advantageous. Knowledge of GPS tools, field-level data collection, research, and community-based approaches, particularly in rural Ethiopia, is essential. Familiarity with ODK and Kobo technology, and proficiency in MS Office are required.
Skills
In-depth knowledge of migration-related subject areas. Understanding of UN and bilateral donor programming. Familiarity with financial rules and regulations. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Access).
