Job Purpose
This role supports the IOM Data and Research Team in Ethiopia, contributing to the successful implementation of IOM's data research operations and related projects. The position is crucial for ensuring the quality and integrity of migration data, which informs IOM's strategic interventions and support to governments and migrants. By assisting in data collection, analysis, and reporting, the associate plays a key part in understanding migration dynamics and facilitating evidence-based decision-making within the organization and among its partners.
Responsibilities
Key duties include assisting in project implementation and monitoring, ensuring data collection quality through verification and corrective measures, and compiling, summarizing, and analyzing project-related information. The role involves developing work plans for data collection and processing in coordination with the DRU team, drafting status reports, and identifying potential issues with suggested remedies. Responsibilities also extend to facilitating communication with government focal points, drafting correspondence, preparing reports and documentation, and responding to information requests. The associate will organize meetings and workshops, participate in relevant forums, and coordinate implementation activities with various stakeholders, including local authorities, partners, and UN agencies. Additionally, the role requires monitoring implementing partners, providing guidance to junior staff, and performing other assigned duties.
Work Experience
Required experience includes liaising with governmental authorities and international institutions, working with vulnerable groups (migrants, refugees, IDPs), and a minimum of 3 years in field-level data collection and research. Experience with GPS tools, ODK, Kobo technology, and MS Office is necessary. Prior work in a multicultural setting with humanitarian organizations is advantageous, as is experience in rural/remote areas of Ethiopia and with recognized institutions for data collection.
Skills
Proficiency in data collection, processing, and analysis; knowledge of migration-related subject areas; familiarity with UN and bilateral donor programming; computer literacy (MS Office); knowledge of GPS tools, ODK, and Kobo; strong communication and interpersonal skills.
