Job Purpose
This position is crucial for supporting the IOM Data and Research Team in Ethiopia, ensuring the successful implementation of data research operations and related projects. The role involves assisting in project monitoring, data quality control, and information management. By contributing to the collection, compilation, analysis, and presentation of migration-related data, the associate will support evidence-based decision-making and enhance IOM's understanding of migration dynamics. The position plays a key part in facilitating smooth project operations, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring the timely delivery of project outputs, ultimately strengthening IOM's support to people on the move.
Responsibilities
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, ensuring data quality through verification and corrective measures. Compile, summarize, analyze, and present project-related information and data. Develop work plans and activity schedules for data collection, processing, and analysis in coordination with the DRU team. Draft status reports, identify delivery shortfalls, and propose remedial actions. Facilitate regional endorsement and communication with government focal points for smooth operations. Draft correspondence, prepare reports, briefing notes, and other documentation. Respond to information requests, maintain records, and organize meetings and workshops. Participate in meetings and assist in coordinating implementation activities with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, and other stakeholders. Monitor implementing partners and report non-compliances. Gather timely information on displacement population mobility flows and other required data. Support Flow Monitoring Operations and provide guidance/training to junior staff.
Work Experience
Minimum of 3 years of experience in field-level data collection and research. Experience liaising with governmental authorities, international institutions, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups (migrants, refugees, IDPs). Knowledge of GPS tools, ODK, and Kobo technology is desirable. Computer literacy in MS Office suite is required. Experience in multi-cultural settings and with humanitarian organizations is advantageous.
Skills
In-depth knowledge of migration-related subject areas. Knowledge of UN and bilateral donor programming. Knowledge of financial rules and regulations. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to transfer knowledge and skills on data collection, processing, and analysis.
