This role supports IOM's Data and Research Unit operations in Ethiopia, contributing to the successful implementation of migration data and research projects.
Job Purpose
This position is crucial for supporting the IOM Data and Research Team in Ethiopia, ensuring the successful implementation of data and research operations related to migration. The role involves assisting in the collection, verification, and analysis of data, contributing to the development of work plans, and facilitating communication with stakeholders. By ensuring data quality and supporting project activities, this role directly contributes to IOM's mandate of understanding and addressing migration challenges. The associate will play a key part in gathering timely information on population mobility and supporting flow monitoring operations, ultimately aiding in the provision of evidence-based insights for IOM's migration management efforts.
Responsibilities
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, with a focus on data collection and quality control. Verify and monitor the quality of collected data, implementing corrective measures as needed. Retrieve, compile, summarize, analyze, and present information and data on specific project topics. Develop work plans and activity schedules for data collection, processing, and analysis in coordination with the Data and Research Unit. Draft status reports, identify delivery shortfalls, and suggest remedial actions. Facilitate regional endorsement and communication with government focal points. Draft correspondence, prepare reports, briefing notes, and other documentation. Respond to information requests, maintain records, and organize meetings and workshops. Participate in meetings and assist in coordinating implementation activities with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, and other stakeholders. Monitor the work of implementing partners and report non-compliances. Gather timely information on displacement population mobility flows. Support Flow Monitoring Operations and provide guidance/training to junior staff.
Work Experience
Requires experience liaising with governmental authorities, international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups (migrants, refugees, IDPs) is essential. Prior experience in a multicultural setting with international humanitarian organizations is advantageous. Knowledge of GPS tools, Open Data Kit (ODK), and Kobo technology is needed. Minimum of 3 years of field-level data collection and research experience is required, along with computer literacy in MS Office.
Skills
Proficiency in data collection, processing, and analysis. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of migration-related subject areas. Familiarity with UN and bilateral donor programming. Computer literacy (MS Office). Knowledge of GPS, ODK, and Kobo technology.
