Job Purpose
This position is crucial for supporting the IOM Data and Research Team in Ethiopia, specifically towards the successful implementation of IOM's data research operations and related projects. The role involves assisting in the collection, verification, and analysis of data, ensuring its quality and accuracy. By contributing to the development of work plans, drafting reports, and facilitating communication with stakeholders, the position directly supports the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the Data and Research Unit. The ultimate goal is to provide reliable data and insights that inform IOM's migration-related initiatives and support its mandate of promoting humane and orderly migration.
Responsibilities
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, ensuring data quality through verification and corrective measures. Compile, summarize, analyze, and present project-related information and data. Develop work plans and activity schedules for data collection, processing, and analysis in coordination with the DRU team. Draft status reports, identify delivery shortfalls, and suggest remedial actions. Facilitate regional endorsement and communication with government focal points. Draft correspondence, prepare reports, briefing notes, and other documentation. Respond to information requests, maintain files, and organize meetings, workshops, and training sessions. Participate in meetings and assist in coordinating implementation activities with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, and other stakeholders. Monitor implementing partners' work and report non-compliances. Gather timely information on displacement, population mobility, and other required data sources. Support Flow Monitoring Operations and provide guidance/training to junior staff.
Work Experience
Requires experience in liaising with governmental authorities and international institutions. Experience working with vulnerable groups (migrants, refugees, IDPs) is essential. Prior experience with international humanitarian organizations in a multicultural setting is advantageous. Knowledge of GPS tools, Open Data Kit (ODK), and Kobo technology is beneficial. Minimum of 3 years of field-level data collection and research experience is required, along with computer literacy (MS Office).
Skills
In-depth knowledge of migration-related subject areas. Understanding of UN and bilateral donor programming. Knowledge of financial rules and regulations. Computer literacy (MS Office suite). Experience with data collection tools (ODK, Kobo) and GPS tools is desirable.
