Job Purpose
This position is crucial for supporting the IOM Data and Research Team in Ethiopia, ensuring the successful implementation of data research operations and related projects. The role involves assisting in project activities, data collection, quality control, and reporting. By contributing to the accurate compilation and analysis of migration data, this role directly supports IOM's mandate to understand and address migration challenges. The associate will play a key part in facilitating smooth operations, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring the timely delivery of project outputs, thereby strengthening IOM's evidence-based approach to migration management and assistance.
Responsibilities
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, ensuring data quality through verification and corrective measures. Compile, summarize, analyze, and present project-related information and data. Develop work plans and activity schedules for data collection, processing, and analysis in coordination with the DRU team. Draft status reports, identify shortfalls, and suggest remedial actions. Facilitate regional endorsement and communication with government focal points for smooth operations. Draft correspondence, prepare reports, briefing notes, and other documentation. Respond to information requests, maintain files, and organize meetings and workshops. Participate in meetings, assist in coordinating implementation activities with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, and other stakeholders. Monitor implementing partners and report non-compliances. Gather timely information on displacement, population mobility, and other required data sources. Support Flow Monitoring Operations as needed and provide guidance/training to junior staff.
Work Experience
Requires experience liaising with governmental authorities, international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups (migrants, refugees, IDPs) is essential. Prior experience in a multicultural setting with international humanitarian organizations is advantageous. Familiarity with GPS tools, Open Data Kit (ODK), and Kobo technology is needed. Minimum of 3 years in field-level data collection and research is required. Proficiency in MS Office suite is necessary.
Skills
In-depth knowledge of migration-related subject areas. Understanding of UN and bilateral donor programming. Knowledge of financial rules and regulations. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to transfer knowledge on data collection, processing, and analysis.
