Job Purpose
This role operates under the overall supervision of the Supply Chain Officer and direct supervision of the Supply Chain Assistant – Fleet Management. The incumbent is responsible for providing essential transportation services for IOM staff and the delivery of mail and packages. Key duties include maintaining vehicle readiness through regular checks, fueling, and basic repairs, ensuring the vehicle is clean and in optimal running condition. The driver will also operate and maintain emergency communication equipment, meticulously record all vehicle movements and fuel consumption in the logbook, and alert supervisors to any necessary repairs. Adherence to traffic laws and providing assistance during medical emergencies en route are critical. The position requires maintaining confidentiality and discretion in all IOM-related discussions.
Responsibilities
The Aden Driver is responsible for providing transportation for IOM staff and delivering mail, packages, and letters as requested. This includes ensuring the vehicle is adequately fueled, maintained in good running condition, and kept clean. Daily checks of oil, water, battery, and tire pressure are required, along with performing routine repairs. The driver must operate and maintain emergency communication equipment (VHF/UHF radios) and ensure essential emergency supplies are always present in the vehicle. Maintaining an accurate vehicle logbook with daily records of movements, fuel consumption, and mileage is essential, along with promptly alerting supervisors to any repairs. The role also involves behaving professionally with staff, assisting them with entering/leaving the vehicle, and potentially handling baggage. Strict adherence to all traffic laws and limits is mandatory. The driver must be prepared to respond to medical emergencies during transit and maintain a high degree of confidentiality regarding IOM matters.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant work experience is required, with a preference for experience within a humanitarian agency.
