This Project Assistant role supports the management of transit facilities for Rohingya refugees arriving in Indonesia.
Job Purpose
The Project Assistant (Transit Site) role is crucial for supporting the IOM Indonesia team in managing transit facilities for Rohingya refugees who disembark in the Aceh and Pekanbaru provinces. These refugees have undertaken hazardous journeys and require immediate humanitarian assistance, including health, protection, shelter, WASH, non-food items, cash assistance, and psychosocial support. The position directly contributes to ensuring the safety, well-being, and adequate reception of vulnerable populations, facilitating their access to essential services and supporting their temporary accommodation upon arrival, in line with IOM guidelines and government regulations.
Responsibilities
The Project Assistant will support camp management to meet refugees' basic needs according to CCCM standards. This includes coordinating with IOM Health, MHPSS, and other teams to facilitate refugee access to services. The role involves close coordination with humanitarian partners and government actors to ensure the quality of assistance provided. Responsibilities include conducting needs assessments, designing humanitarian responses in consultation with the refugee community, and ensuring refugee representation and consultation. The assistant will also conduct protection risk mitigation, provide suggestions for improving the protection environment, and act as a focal point for activities at the transit site. Maintaining relations with the host community, local authorities, and other key actors, and supporting refugee movement in line with IOM guidelines are also key duties. Other related tasks may be assigned.
Work Experience
Requires at least two years of experience in humanitarian or development programs targeting migrants. Experience in community-based projects and working with non-governmental institutions, civil society organizations, or UN agencies is also necessary.
