Program Associate, MHPSS
Organizational Context
IOM is a leading inter-governmental organization promoting humane and orderly migration. IOM Ethiopia provides post-arrival support to vulnerable Ethiopian migrant returnees, addressing psychosocial challenges to ensure well-being and successful reintegration. This Program Associate role, under the Head of Programmes and Programme Officer (Health and MHPSS), supports Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities within the Protection Unit in Addis Ababa.
Job Purpose
The Program Associate, MHPSS, will support the implementation of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities for vulnerable Ethiopian migrant returnees in Addis Ababa. This role is crucial for addressing the psychiatric and psychosocial challenges faced by migrants due to hardships during their journeys. By providing direct support, facilitating referrals, and assisting in the organization of psychosocial activities, the position contributes to protecting migrants' well-being and aiding their successful reintegration into their communities. The role operates within IOM Ethiopia's Protection Unit, collaborating with the Migration Health Unit and other partners to ensure comprehensive care and support services are delivered effectively.
Responsibilities
Provide direct MHPSS support to vulnerable migrants at transit centers and shelters, facilitating referrals to specialized services. Assist in delivering technical support to IOM staff and contribute to the design and implementation of MHPSS activities, including community-based initiatives. Support the National Referral Mechanism for MHPSS services and contribute to developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and capacity-building for service providers. Participate in and help roll out MHPSS trainings for IOM staff and external partners. Monitor and report on MHPSS activities, ensuring mainstreaming across programs. Maintain accurate records of MHPSS assistance and participate in relevant coordination meetings. Undertake field missions for direct assistance and operational support, and manage administrative tasks related to project activities.
Work Experience
Experience in MHPSS work, including counseling, protection, and social work with vulnerable populations. Experience liaising with governmental authorities, international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience in conducting MHPSS trainings and working with returning migrants. Previous experience with NGOs or international organizations is advantageous.
Skills
