IOM Ireland has been active since 2001, managing various aspects of migration, including resettlement, protection, and integration. The organization provides crucial Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) to international protection seekers at Citywest accommodation, aiming to enhance their well-being and resilience. This role supports MHPSS project activities and social work services for international protection applicants in transit accommodation centres.
Job Purpose
This role is designed to support the implementation of MHPSS project activities and social work services for international protection applicants housed in transit accommodation centres across Ireland. The incumbent will contribute to improving the psychosocial well-being and resilience of these individuals by providing direct assistance and facilitating access to essential services. Working under the supervision of senior staff, the position plays a key part in the MHPSS unit's efforts to address the mental health needs of vulnerable populations within the accommodation facilities, ensuring a supportive and protective environment.
Responsibilities
Key duties include mapping and disseminating information on available basic services and protection activities, and providing direct assistance to vulnerable individuals and families. The role involves organizing group sessions on social issues, strengthening social networks, and promoting community-based psychosocial initiatives. Responsibilities also encompass identifying vulnerable cases, facilitating MHPSS needs assessments, and coordinating with the team to integrate vulnerable individuals into community activities. Additionally, the position requires providing technical guidance to community focal points, developing recreational activities, preparing outreach materials, and potentially supervising volunteers.
Work Experience
Previous experience in social and protection activities is advantageous. Experience working with diverse populations, including migrants and refugees, is preferred. Familiarity with direct assistance to vulnerable migrants and working in multicultural environments is beneficial. Experience with international organizations or government departments is an asset. Strong organizational, communication, and computer literacy skills are required.
