Organizational Context
The Department of Media and Communications (DMC) comprises experienced professionals in Geneva and Manila, providing media and public information support to IOM's global offices. It manages global media relations, crisis management, and produces diverse content to enhance awareness of IOM's operations. The Multimedia Officer, based in Geneva under the Head of Multimedia, supports country missions and HQ by generating multimedia content for flagship campaigns and operational programmes.
Job Purpose
The Multimedia Officer's primary purpose is to provide essential reporting and visibility support to IOM's global operations, both at Headquarters and in country missions. This involves generating high-quality multimedia content to effectively promote IOM's flagship campaigns and operational programmes in the field. The role is crucial for enhancing institutional visibility, amplifying the impact of IOM's work, and fostering engagement across diverse audiences including digital, media, donor, and public stakeholders worldwide. By creating compelling visual and auditory narratives, the officer ensures that IOM's humanitarian efforts, solutions to displacement, and facilitation of regular migration pathways are clearly communicated. This position directly contributes to IOM's strategic communications objectives, ensuring consistent messaging and ethical storytelling that resonates with key partners and the general public, ultimately strengthening support for people on the move.
Responsibilities
The Multimedia Officer is responsible for producing high-quality multimedia content, including photography and videography, to capture IOM's activities and projects. This involves developing creative storytelling initiatives that enhance institutional visibility, amplify programme results, and foster engagement across digital, media, donor, and public audiences globally. The role requires collaboration with Regional and Country Offices to highlight achievements through visually engaging audiovisual content, supporting IOM's strategic positioning. The officer provides editorial guidance, quality assurance, and specialized multimedia training to regional and country offices, ensuring compliance with IOM branding, ethical storytelling, and consent requirements. Additionally, the role offers technical support to HQ departments and the Executive Office for strategic communications and high-level events. Key duties include managing the multimedia studio, supporting video recording, scriptwriting, and curating the IOM Media Library. The officer also monitors emerging trends, technologies, and AI-assisted workflows to recommend improvements.
Work Experience
Required experience includes professional photography and/or videography on location, documenting humanitarian programme activities, including emergency operations. Candidates should have experience working in teams, script and copy writing for detailed multimedia products, livestreaming, event management, and coordinating field visits. Writing and editing experience in reporting and public information, especially in emergency contexts, is also essential.
Skills
Key skills include in-depth knowledge of photography, videography, script writing, storytelling, and visual communication. Expertise in essential multimedia software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Lightroom, and InDesign is required. Familiarity with digital communications, audience engagement, content distribution strategies, and ethical storytelling principles is crucial. Demonstrated project management, organizational skills, teamwork, coordination, and relationship-management abilities are essential. Knowledge of international organizations, humanitarian frameworks, and emerging multimedia technologies, including AI-assisted tools, is also important.
