The Project Associate (MHPSS) role is based in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, operating under the supervision of the Protection Officer and Senior Protection Associate.
Job Purpose
The Project Associate (MHPSS) plays a crucial role in supporting IOM's mission to promote humane and orderly migration by providing essential services to migrants. This position contributes directly to the well-being of vulnerable individuals by assisting in protection screening, case management, and the implementation of post-arrival assistance. The role ensures that migrants, particularly those with specific needs such as survivors of GBV, children at risk, and individuals requiring psychosocial support, receive appropriate care and referrals. By meticulously documenting cases, coordinating with service providers, and facilitating communication with beneficiaries, the Project Associate ensures that IOM's protection mandate is effectively executed on the ground, contributing to safer migration pathways and improved outcomes for those on the move.
Responsibilities
The Project Associate (MHPSS) is responsible for supporting individual protection screening activities for arriving migrants, accurately documenting protection-related information, and maintaining case records, including sensitive data on GBV survivors, at-risk children, and individuals with psychosocial needs. They will assist in case management and AVR assistance, including follow-ups, record maintenance, and referrals to specialized service providers. The role involves supporting the implementation of safe post-arrival assistance, ensuring privacy and confidentiality, and coordinating with relevant authorities. Communication with beneficiaries about available assistance and support for data collection and administrative tasks related to assessments and information gathering on migrant populations, social inclusion, and MHPSS are key duties. The associate will also assist in report preparation, compilation of information for protection reporting, and may undertake duty travel for field visits and service monitoring.
Work Experience
Experience in supporting Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities is required, with experience with migrant populations being an advantage. Knowledge of MHPSS program activities, protection mechanisms, and referral procedures is essential. Experience in migration, return, reintegration, trafficking, and smuggling of migrants is beneficial. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and general IT skills is necessary. Familiarity with local cultural norms and migration issues in Honduras is also important.

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Good interpersonal skills for working with diverse stakeholders. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks effectively. High attention to detail and methodical organization of paperwork and documentation.
