Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Country Office for Austria in Vienna is seeking an intern for its Policy Research and Migration Law Unit. This unit serves as the National Contact Point for the European Migration Network (EMN), aiming to provide reliable information on migration and asylum to support EU policymaking. The internship is for a fixed term from August 2026 to January 2027.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to attract talented students and graduates interested in migration and asylum issues to support the IOM Country Office for Austria. The intern will contribute to the operational activities of the Policy Research and Migration Law Unit, specifically supporting the European Migration Network (EMN) as its National Contact Point. The role provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in research, event management, content management, and administrative support within an international organization focused on migration. The intern will assist in synthesizing information, organizing events, and managing online content, contributing to the EMN's objective of informing EU policy and public discourse on migration and asylum.
Responsibilities
The intern will provide administrative and operational support to the Policy Research and Migration Law Unit and the European Migration Network (EMN). Key duties include assisting in the planning, organization, and implementation of events and EMN activities. The role involves supporting the online content management of the EMN website and contributing to research projects undertaken by the unit. Additionally, the intern will perform translations between German and English, collect relevant publications and stakeholder information, and attend meetings to take notes when requested. Other assigned tasks may also be part of the intern's responsibilities.
Work Experience
Candidates should have less than two years of relevant working experience. Experience with an international organization is considered an asset.
Skills
Proficiency in research and excellent writing skills are essential. Strong social and intercultural skills, along with excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, are required. Affinity for IT and competent handling of virtual events are advantageous. Knowledge of migration and asylum governance in Austria and the EU, and a solid understanding of academic discourse, are also beneficial.
