Organizational Context
The Infrastructure Unit in IOM Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, is a key operational component of the Rohingya Refugee Response. Funded by international donors, the unit manages medium-complexity infrastructure projects, including site planning, roads, bridges, health facilities, and site rehabilitation. The role supports the unit's field implementation activities.
Job Purpose
This role is crucial for assisting the field implementation of IOM's infrastructure program in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, as part of the Rohingya Refugee Response. The incumbent will support activities such as rehabilitation, reconstruction, and enhancement of solar street lights, lightning arresters, nano grids, e-waste disposal, and the construction of multi-purpose service centers and other facilities. The position requires close collaboration with internal teams and external units to ensure effective planning and execution of community-based infrastructure projects within camp areas and host communities.
Responsibilities
Assist in the field implementation of infrastructure projects, particularly solar energy systems, ensuring adherence to technical specifications and regular progress reporting. Conduct site visits to monitor construction, repair, operation, and maintenance of solar and electrical installations, ensuring quality control and addressing technical issues. Support technical aspects including site assessment, BoQ calculation, and works monitoring. Coordinate with relevant teams and stakeholders, including community members and local government agencies, to facilitate project execution. Contribute to hazard mitigation and disaster risk reduction initiatives. Provide capacity building support to field staff and community groups on solar/electrical infrastructure. Liaise with local government and stakeholders for project coordination and obtain necessary approvals.
Work Experience
Requires professional experience in implementing electrical and mechanical projects, including solar/sustainable energy design, implementation, and maintenance. Experience with international organizations, camp rehabilitation, site development, and contract administration is advantageous. Familiarity with common engineering software and Auto Cad for electrical designs is a plus.
