Job Purpose
The Communications Officer (Campaigns) is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing global campaigns to advance IOM’s strategic objectives. This role involves creating impactful communication and advocacy campaigns to enhance public awareness of IOM’s work. Key functions include establishing clear communication channels, ensuring consistent messaging, and improving information flow between IOM Headquarters, Global Offices, Regional Offices, and Country Offices. The position is vital for fostering a cohesive communication strategy that aligns with organizational goals and supports operational efficiency, ultimately strengthening IOM's support to people on the move.
Responsibilities
The Communications Officer (Campaigns) will design and develop global campaigns aligned with IOM’s strategic priorities, addressing migration, humanitarian response, and policy advocacy. This includes developing campaign frameworks, goals, and messaging for diverse audiences. The role involves coordinating with various IOM divisions and offices to ensure campaign consistency and overseeing multi-channel execution using digital, print, and broadcast media. Collaboration with online, multimedia, and news teams for content development is essential. The officer will coordinate joint campaigns with internal and external stakeholders, including UN agencies and NGOs, to amplify messages. Performance monitoring, analysis of results, and reporting are key duties, alongside facilitating media relations and identifying communication opportunities around key international moments. The role also includes performing other assigned duties.
Work Experience
Requires three years of experience in managing or overseeing communication campaigns for a UN agency, NPO, or civil society organization. Experience in understanding news coverage drivers and influencing policymakers is beneficial, as is experience developing strategic documents and dealing with diverse government and UN agency counterparts. Experience in migration issues, including field experience, is an advantage.
Skills
Proven track record in managing successful communication campaigns. Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines while understanding organizational and external contexts. Excellent understanding of migration issues and familiarity with the UN system or IOM's mission are assets. Excellent writing skills for diverse platforms and publications are essential.
