Project Associate
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Micronesia seeks a Project Associate in Chuuk. This role operates under the Chief of Mission and Head of Sub Office, coordinating with the Programme Officer (Disaster Risk Reduction). The position supports programme activities, including emergency relief supply tracking, coordination with local authorities, and implementation of DTM and protection monitoring.
Job Purpose
The Project Associate will provide crucial support to IOM's programme activities in Micronesia, specifically within the context of emergency relief and disaster risk reduction. This involves meticulous tracking of prepositioned emergency supplies, fostering coordination with local authorities and the Disaster Coordination Office (DCO), and developing essential program support tools. The role is instrumental in managing purchase requests and directly assisting in emergency relief operations. Furthermore, the incumbent will offer technical expertise in emergency response distribution plans, particularly for Non-Food Items (NFIs), and contribute to the implementation of IOM's Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) and protection monitoring activities during critical response phases, such as the Typhoon Sinlaku response.
Responsibilities
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of relief activities for Resilience and CERF projects, including direct support in select Chuuk State municipalities. Compile, analyze, and present project-related data and information. Monitor project budgets, verify fund availability, and process necessary approvals. Serve as the administrative focal point for project implementation, liaising extensively with internal units and external parties to initiate requests and follow up on actions. Draft status reports, identify delivery shortfalls, and propose remedial actions. Prepare correspondence, reports, briefing notes, and other documentation. Respond to information requests, maintain project files, and organize meetings and training sessions. Participate in meetings and conferences, coordinating implementation activities with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, and other stakeholders. Assist in monitoring Resilience and CERF operations, developing tracking and monitoring tools, and supporting post-distribution monitoring. Provide guidance to junior staff and perform other assigned duties.
Work Experience
Experience liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with relief programs through government, international organizations, NGOs, or civil society. Experience in communication, coordination, meeting facilitation, and community outreach for emergency activities is advantageous.
