Job Purpose
This role is crucial for the effective and efficient implementation of IOM's programs in Mendi, Papua New Guinea. The Driver will provide essential day-to-day transport, logistical, and administrative support. The primary purpose is to ensure the safe and timely movement of IOM staff, beneficiaries, and essential supplies. By maintaining vehicles and adhering to transport procedures, the role contributes directly to operational continuity and the successful delivery of IOM's mission in the region. This position is key to facilitating program activities and supporting the overall logistical framework of the IOM office.
Responsibilities
The Driver is responsible for operating IOM vehicles safely and punctually, adhering to all security and transportation procedures. This includes transporting authorized personnel, beneficiaries, and delivering/collecting supplies, mail, and documents. The role involves ensuring cost-efficiency through proper vehicle use and accurate record-keeping, including daily logs and mileage. Regular vehicle maintenance, including minor repairs and scheduled servicing, is essential to ensure operational readiness. The Driver will maintain an inventory of spare parts and update vehicle maintenance history. Data collection and reporting on vehicle usage, fuel consumption, and mileage are required. The Driver must ensure vehicles are used solely for official purposes, maintain confidentiality, and take precautions against security threats. In case of an accident, the Driver must follow organizational and local regulations. The role also includes delivering documents and medicines and performing other assigned duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of driving experience with a good safety record is required, along with familiarity with the local area. Skills in minor vehicle repair are necessary. Experience with UN security procedures, radio equipment operation, and Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel) is advantageous.
