Project Assistant To MECC Unit
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN agency established in 1951, promotes humane and orderly migration. This Project Assistant role supports the MECC unit in Uzbekistan, reporting to the Head of Unit and overall to the Chief of Mission. The position focuses on implementing IOM's program activities at the intersection of climate change, migration, and health, aligning with national priorities and donor requirements.
Job Purpose
The Project Assistant will support the implementation of IOM's program activities in Uzbekistan, specifically focusing on climate change, migration, and health. This role is crucial for coordinating, implementing, and monitoring initiatives that address the complex interplay between these areas. The incumbent will contribute to projects funded by various international partners, focusing on climate change adaptation, migration health, women's empowerment, cross-border health security, and policy development. By ensuring effective project delivery, fostering stakeholder collaboration, and maintaining accurate reporting, the Project Assistant will significantly contribute to IOM's mission of enhancing climate resilience and strengthening health systems for vulnerable populations and migrants in Uzbekistan.
Responsibilities
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, including retrieving, compiling, and summarizing project-related data. Monitor project budgets, verify fund availability, and obtain necessary approvals. Provide administrative support for project implementation, liaising with internal units and external parties. Draft status reports, identifying delivery shortfalls and preparing correspondence, briefing notes, and other documentation. Organize meetings, workshops, and training sessions. Respond to general information requests and maintain project files and records. Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure effective project execution.
Work Experience
Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups such as migrants, refugees, and IDPs. Prior work experience in a multicultural setting with international humanitarian organizations or government institutions is advantageous.
Skills
Understanding of migration, health, environment, and climate change linkages. Ability to support project planning, coordination, and execution. Skills in data collection, analysis, and reporting. Excellent oral and written communication in English and Russian; Uzbek proficiency is an advantage. Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure. Strong interpersonal skills for multicultural team environments. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
