Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is supporting relief efforts and the reconstruction of public facilities and housing in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia, following Super Typhoon Sinlaku. This consultancy role contributes to the Typhoon Sinlaku Reconstruction component under the READY project, focusing on preparing detailed engineering drawings and finalizing designs for public infrastructure projects.
Job Purpose
This consultancy provides essential technical support for the reconstruction efforts in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia, in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Sinlaku. The primary purpose is to prepare detailed technical drawings, plans, and detailed engineering drawings (DEDs). This role will also support the revision and finalization of designs for public infrastructure projects. By translating assessment information into accurate construction drawings and specifications, the consultant will directly contribute to the successful rebuilding of damaged public facilities and housing, ensuring consistency with the project scope and implementation guidelines under the READY project.
Responsibilities
The Consultant will assist Field Engineers in validating and assessing reconstruction projects, ensuring accurate capture of structural details. Key duties include drafting complete reconstruction plan details and translating assessment information into detailed drawings. The role involves ensuring drawings align with the scope of works and standards, and assisting in the preparation of complete Detailed Engineering Designs (DEDs) according to implementation guidelines. The consultant will also provide input for technical specifications, prepare shop drawings and design development for new house construction, and assist in developing IEC materials and graphical layouts. Adherence to IOM policies, including prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse, is mandatory. The role may require travel within Chuuk and the region.
Work Experience
Required experience includes practical construction or engineering, and strong organizational and time management capabilities. Experience working with non-governmental or international organizations is considered an advantage.
Skills
Proficiency in drafting detailed technical drawings, plans, and Detailed Engineering Drawings (DEDs). Ability to translate structural assessments into technical drawings. Experience in preparing technical specifications and shop drawings. Strong organizational and time management skills. Understanding of construction and engineering principles. Ability to collaborate with Field Engineers. Familiarity with IOM policies is beneficial.
