The Office of Staff Security (OSS) provides leadership on security policy and operational support to ensure IOM programs can be delivered effectively while managing risks. This Senior Field Security Associate role supports the Field Security Officer in South Sudan, contributing to the implementation of IOM's activities and security risk management.
Job Purpose
The Senior Field Security Associate plays a crucial role in supporting the Field Security Officer (FSO) in South Sudan to ensure the safety and security of IOM personnel, assets, and operations. This position is vital for enabling IOM's activities by providing specialized security support and assisting in all aspects of security risk management. The role contributes to establishing and maintaining an appropriate level of security awareness within IOM South Sudan, ensuring that security plans, policies, and procedures are effectively implemented and that staff are adequately informed and prepared to manage security risks. Ultimately, the purpose is to facilitate the safe and effective delivery of IOM's mission in a challenging environment.
Responsibilities
The Senior Field Security Associate will assist the Field Security Officer in maintaining effective relationships with UN DSS, government agencies, and local authorities for security information gathering. Responsibilities include collecting, updating, and communicating security situation information, and verifying its accuracy. The role supports the development and implementation of country-specific security plans, contingency plans, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including contributing to the Business Continuity Plan. The associate will aid in conducting Security Risk Management (SRM) processes, monitoring security measure implementation, and providing advice on Residential Security Measures (RSM). Additionally, the role involves supporting the Country Office Warden system, ensuring communication systems are operational, and disseminating safety and security information. The associate will assist in reporting security incidents, preparing security reports, and organizing security awareness training and orientations for new personnel. Maintaining security files and databases, verifying access control procedures, and assisting in incident investigations are also key duties. Liaison with commercial security providers is also part of the role.
Work Experience
Relevant professional experience in humanitarian, public, private, or corporate sectors is desirable. Experience in security programs, risk assessments, analysis, operational security risk management, investigations, or physical security is also beneficial. Experience with radio communications and successful completion of the UNDSS Field Security Associate (FSA) course are desirable.
Skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with senior government security counterparts and relevant stakeholders is an advantage. Strong ability to work effectively with colleagues from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including active listening and effective responsiveness.
