This role operates within the Migrant Reception Centre (MRC) in Bangui, Central African Republic, under the supervision of the Chief of Mission and the Migration Health Officer.
Job Purpose
This role is crucial for executing daily nursing activities within the Migrant Reception Centre (MRC) in Bangui, Central African Republic, ensuring compliance with technical requirements for resettlement countries. The position involves conducting medical examinations, administering vaccinations, managing treatments and referrals, and performing pre-departure procedures. A key aspect is providing migrants with clear information about the health assessment process and medical referrals. The role also focuses on accurate identification and follow-up through comprehensive medical history collection, data verification, and maintaining beneficiary records. Adherence to standard operating procedures and universal precautions is essential for maintaining health standards within the MRC.
Responsibilities
The Migration Health Nurse will perform daily nursing activities at the Migrant Reception Centre (MRC), including vital signs assessment, vaccinations, treatment, and medical referrals. Responsibilities include providing detailed information to migrants about health assessments and referrals, ensuring accurate identification and follow-up through medical history and data collection, and maintaining beneficiary records. The nurse will adhere to standard operating procedures and universal precautions. Key duties also involve managing the MRC pharmacy, medical stocks, and emergency kits, and conducting counseling sessions on tuberculosis, HIV, and communicable disease prevention. The role includes preparing administrative reports, supporting mobile missions, assisting with pre-departure preparations, and performing medical escort duties as needed to ensure continuity of care. Collaboration with internal IOM departments, health providers, and other partners is essential for information sharing and follow-up. Statistical data collection and reporting are also required.
Work Experience
Requires excellent technical skills and clinical nursing experience. Experience in mass vaccination campaigns, communicable diseases, laboratory analysis, or public health is an asset. Strong patient relationship skills, knowledge of disease prevention and sanitary control principles, and experience with patient safety and infection control measures are necessary. Good organizational and communication skills are essential. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access) is required.
