This role operates within the Coordination Office for the Mediterranean, under the supervision of the Director, Chief of Mission, Senior Programme Associate, and Project Coordinator.
Job Purpose
This role is designed to assist in the implementation of Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) counselling and activities for the project 'Training, Assistance and Territorial Support for the Efficiency of Assisted Voluntary Returns'. The incumbent will support the delivery of AVRR services across various Italian regions, contributing to the organization's mandate of promoting humane and orderly migration. The position plays a crucial part in providing essential information and support to Third Country Nationals (TCNs) interested in voluntary return, ensuring a smooth and efficient process. By facilitating access to information, counselling, and application procedures, the role directly contributes to the well-being of migrants and the effectiveness of IOM's AVRR program in Italy.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include establishing and maintaining contact with local stakeholders such as municipalities, NGOs, and diaspora groups to strengthen AVRR referral mechanisms and disseminate information. The role involves providing AVRR information sessions and tailored counselling to Third Country Nationals (TCNs) interested in returning to their countries of origin. This includes assisting migrants in completing AVRR applications, submitting them to competent authorities, and ensuring proper documentation. The incumbent will also coordinate with Police Headquarters and Prefectures to facilitate the assessment and authorization process for eligible migrants. Furthermore, responsibilities extend to assisting in the organization of transportation for medical and non-medical cases, liaising with medical facilities, and collecting information for statistical reporting and migrant profiling. The role also involves contributing to the identification and dissemination of success stories and performing other project-related tasks as assigned.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of experience in the migration sector is required, with a focus on providing direct assistance to migrant populations, including those in vulnerable situations. Proven experience working with Italian institutions at central and local levels, civil society, and diaspora groups is essential. Experience in a multicultural team environment is also necessary. Previous experience in AVRR counselling is considered an asset.
