Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in the Netherlands seeks a Project Associate to support Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) activities. This role focuses on providing AVRR services to migrants, particularly those in irregular situations and vulnerable populations. The position operates within South Holland, collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure safe, dignified, and rights-based return assistance.
Job Purpose
The Project Associate is responsible for supporting the implementation of Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) activities in the Netherlands under the supervision of the Chief of Mission and Senior Operations Assistant. The role's primary purpose is to contribute to the provision of AVRR services to migrants considering voluntary return, with a specific focus on irregular migrants, asylum reception centre residents, and other vulnerable groups. This involves operating within a network of stakeholders, including government counterparts, reception centres, and civil society organizations, to deliver accessible, migrant-centred services. Key contributions include supporting counselling, outreach, information dissemination, and operational activities that facilitate informed decision-making for voluntary return.
Responsibilities
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, including retrieving, compiling, and analyzing project-related data. Monitor project budgets, verify fund availability, and obtain necessary approvals. Serve as a focal point for administrative coordination, liaising with internal units and external parties to process requests and follow up on actions. Draft status reports, identifying and suggesting remedies for delivery shortfalls. Prepare correspondence, reports, briefing notes, and other documentation. Respond to information requests, maintain files, and organize meetings and workshops. Participate in meetings and assist in coordinating implementation activities with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, and other stakeholders. Monitor implementing partners and report non-compliance. Provide guidance to junior staff and perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Experience
Experience in conducting outreach and engagement with vulnerable populations such as migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. Experience in client-facing support, counselling, case management, or information services. Experience collaborating with government authorities, reception centres, civil society, or community partners. Prior experience with international humanitarian organizations or in a multicultural setting is advantageous.
