Job Purpose
The Risk Management and Compliance Associate plays a crucial role in supporting the effective implementation and continuous improvement of IOM's risk management and compliance framework. This position is dedicated to assisting with the maintenance of mission-wide risk tools, tracking mitigation actions, and conducting regular risk review exercises. The associate will be instrumental in ensuring adherence to IOM's internal rules, regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures, as well as donor agreements, through diligent compliance reviews of programme and operational processes. By reviewing implementing partner documentation, monitoring compliance matters related to grants, and assisting in the development of related SOPs and guidance, the role contributes significantly to strengthening internal controls, enhancing transparency, and promoting accountability across the mission. Ultimately, this position aims to minimize organizational risks, ensure operational integrity, and facilitate informed decision-making, thereby safeguarding IOM's resources and reputation in its humanitarian and development efforts.
Responsibilities
The Risk Management and Compliance Associate is responsible for assisting in the maintenance and updating of mission-wide risk tools, including tracking mitigation actions and supporting regular risk review exercises. This involves tracking and following up on risk treatment action plans and preparing consolidated updates for various units. The role includes collecting, organizing, and assisting with the basic analysis of data related to compliance, internal control, and risk management indicators. The associate will support compliance and desk reviews of programme and operational processes to ensure adherence to IOM rules, regulations, policies, SOPs, and donor agreements. Furthermore, the position assists in reviewing implementing partner documentation for contractual, financial, and reporting compliance. Key duties also encompass assisting with the development, review, and updating of risk and compliance-related standard operating procedures, guidance notes, and monitoring tools. The associate will help with the documentation, filing, and tracking of compliance observations and recommendations to ensure audit readiness, and monitor compliance matters related to grants and partnership agreements. Finally, the role involves assisting in compiling reports and dashboards for management oversight and supporting awareness-raising and capacity-building activities for staff and partners on risk management, internal controls, and anti-fraud principles.
Work Experience
Required experience includes compliance, risk management, internal controls, audit, grant management, or implementing partner oversight. Experience supporting legal and contractual compliance for grants, partner agreements, or donor-funded projects is advantageous. Prior experience supporting compliance with institutional and donor rules and regulations is essential. Working experience within an international organization is also considered an advantage.
