Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Thailand is a leading inter-governmental organization dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration. It implements national and regional projects to address migration challenges and provide protection and assistance to vulnerable migrants, working with government, civil society, and private sector partners. This role supports the Protection and Border Governance Unit's regional initiatives.
Job Purpose
The Programme Associate will support the implementation of the Protection and Border Governance Unit (PBGU) initiatives at the regional level, under the supervision of the Programme Manager and Project Officer. This role involves assisting in the day-to-day execution and monitoring of project activities, retrieving and analyzing data, managing budgets, and coordinating administrative and logistical aspects. The position contributes to developing sustainable solutions for migration challenges and enhancing support for vulnerable migrants through research, policy interventions, capacity-building, and outreach, while also engaging with regional partners to promote coherent protection approaches and strengthen responses to trafficking, smuggling, and border governance.
Responsibilities
Assist in the daily implementation and monitoring of Protection and Border Governance project activities. Retrieve, compile, analyze, and present project-specific data, particularly for regional components. Monitor project budgets, verify fund availability, and coordinate with the Resource Management Unit for necessary approvals. Serve as a focal point for administrative, logistical, and procurement coordination, liaising with internal units and external parties. Draft status reports, correspondence, and project documentation, including briefing notes and statistical tables. Respond to information requests, maintain project records, and organize meetings and workshops. Participate in and coordinate implementation activities with various stakeholders, including local authorities, regional partners, UN agencies, and NGOs. Monitor implementing partners' work and report any non-compliance. Provide guidance to junior staff and perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Experience
Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking, and other vulnerable groups. Prior experience with international humanitarian organizations or in a multicultural setting is advantageous.
Skills
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality. Sound knowledge of programme implementation and evaluation. Proven understanding of migration dynamics in Thailand and migrant vulnerabilities. Proficient in information technology and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, SharePoint).
