Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Washington D.C. supports the US Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP), including the administration of the travel loan and collections program. This role sits within the Department of Mobility Pathways and Inclusion (MPI), specifically the Resettlement and Movement Management Division (RMM), and reports to the Senior TLP Associate.
Job Purpose
The TLP Repayment Associate is responsible for managing all aspects of outstanding debts and paid-in-full loans for TLP Participants. This involves direct communication with migrants holding TLP accounts to discuss their loan status, guided by IOM principles and adhering to federal, state, and regulatory guidelines. The role contributes to the financial health of the travel loan program by facilitating repayment agreements and ensuring compliance with program policies and legal requirements.
Responsibilities
Initiate outreach calls to participants with overdue accounts, encouraging repayment and discussing settlement options while adhering to legal guidelines. Review and accurately enter data into relevant systems, documenting all contact results and notes. Respond to participant inquiries via phone and email regarding their accounts. Negotiate repayment agreements with participants and prepare/distribute repayment letters. Provide support for the TLP WebPortal, including user registration. Maintain in-depth understanding of SOPs, databases, and IOM Standards of Conduct, ensuring confidentiality and data integrity. Uphold protection mainstreaming standards and report any safeguarding concerns or non-compliance.
Work Experience
Experience in office management, accounting, or bookkeeping is required. Experience in billing and collections is advantageous. Experience with the USRAP Travel Loan Program is a distinctive advantage.
Skills
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel). Strong verbal communication and persuasion skills. Highly motivated with an interest in humanitarian dynamics and resilience to manage work pressure. Familiarity with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) is highly advantageous.
