Project Associate, USRAP Travel Loan, Repayment
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Washington D.C. supports the US Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) by managing case processing, health assessments, cultural orientation, transportation, and the travel loan and collections program. This Project Associate role sits within the Department of Mobility Pathways and Inclusion (MPI), specifically the Resettlement and Movement Management Division (RMM), which oversees global resettlement support.
Job Purpose
The Project Associate, USRAP Travel Loan, Repayment, is responsible for managing all aspects of outstanding debts and fully repaid loans for USRAP Travel Loan Program (TLP) Participants. Under the supervision of the Senior TLP Associate and Head of USRAP TLP, the role involves direct communication with participants to address financial obligations. This position ensures adherence to IOM principles and all applicable federal, state, and regulatory guidelines, contributing to the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the TLP collections program within the broader context of IOM's resettlement support services.
Responsibilities
Key duties include initiating outreach calls to participants with overdue accounts, ensuring compliance with legal guidelines, and discussing settlement options. The role involves reviewing and accurately entering data into relevant systems, documenting all contact outcomes and notes. Responding to participant inquiries via phone and email, and actively negotiating fair repayment agreements are essential. The Project Associate will also prepare and distribute repayment letters, assist participants with TLP WebPortal inquiries and registration, and perform skip tracing to locate individuals. Maintaining confidentiality, upholding protection standards, and reporting any safeguarding concerns or non-compliance are critical aspects of the role.
Work Experience
Required experience includes office management, accounting, or bookkeeping. Experience in billing and collections is advantageous. Prior experience with the USRAP Travel Loan Program is a significant advantage.
Skills
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) is required. Strong verbal communication and persuasion skills are essential. Candidates should be highly motivated, possess resilience to manage work pressure, and have a strong interest in humanitarian dynamics. Familiarity with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) is highly advantageous.
