Organizational Context

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a UN-related agency promoting humane and orderly migration. The IOM office in Conakry requires effective and secure staff mobility and transport of materials. This role is crucial for ensuring operational continuity, enhancing movement security, and providing reliable logistical support for all office activities.

Job Purpose

This role is essential for the proper functioning of the IOM office in Conakry by ensuring the effective and secure mobility of staff and the transport of documents and logistical materials. The Driver's primary purpose is to guarantee the continuity and fluidity of operations, strengthen the security of movements, and provide reliable logistical support. By performing driving duties, maintaining assigned vehicles, and assisting with logistical tasks, the incumbent directly contributes to the successful implementation of IOM's activities in Guinea, ensuring that personnel and materials reach their destinations safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

The Driver is responsible for operating assigned vehicles safely and efficiently, ensuring the roadworthiness of the vehicle through daily checks and arranging for minor repairs and regular servicing. This includes maintaining accurate records of spare parts and conducting monthly inventories. The role involves planning the most direct and safe routes, ensuring the vehicle is used only for authorized purposes, and preparing daily log sheets and monthly mileage/fuel consumption reports. The Driver will also assist with airport meet-and-greets, collect and deliver mail and documents, and may perform simple clerical duties. Additionally, the Driver is expected to brief and train other drivers and maintain a high degree of confidentiality and discretion regarding IOM matters, while also taking actions to mitigate potential security threats.

Work Experience

Required experience includes knowledge of driving rules and regulations, experience driving various makes and models of vehicles, skills in minor vehicle repairs, and familiarity with radio, email, and telephone applications.

Skills

Proficiency in safe driving in urban and rural areas, adherence to traffic and road safety regulations, ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance checks, and a service-oriented attitude characterized by politeness, discretion, and professionalism.
