Job Purpose
This role provides essential medical escort services to beneficiaries throughout their migration journey, from departure to arrival, under IOM's care. The Medical Escort ensures the well-being and safety of individuals requiring medical assistance during transit. This involves meticulous planning, continuous monitoring of health status, providing necessary medical interventions, and coordinating with various stakeholders, including airlines, healthcare providers, and IOM staff. The purpose is to facilitate safe and secure travel for vulnerable migrants, ensuring their medical needs are met and that they are handed over appropriately upon reaching their destination.
Responsibilities
The Medical Escort is responsible for comprehensive medical escort services, encompassing pre-departure, in-transit, and post-arrival phases. Key duties include verifying travel documents and medical licenses, familiarizing with beneficiary medical files, planning travel logistics, and ensuring airline approval for medical travel. During transit, the escort must monitor beneficiary health, provide medical assistance, perform fitness-to-travel checks, and maintain close proximity. Upon arrival, responsibilities include handing over beneficiaries to the appropriate parties, completing necessary documentation, returning medical equipment, and submitting comprehensive reports to IOM Cairo. The role also involves coordinating with IOM staff and external specialists as needed.
Work Experience
A minimum of four years of clinical experience is required. Experience in a clinical specialty relevant to the medical profile of the escorted beneficiary, such as anesthesiology, cardiology, neurology, psychiatry, pediatrics, obstetrics, or Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience, is considered an advantage.
Skills
Appropriate language skills are essential for effective communication with the escorted beneficiary. Fluency in English and Arabic is required, with knowledge of French being an advantage.
