Job Purpose
The Protection Associate (Caseworker) plays a crucial role in supporting the IOM's Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration Assistance (AVRR) program. This program is designed to assist vulnerable migrants who wish to return to their country of origin but lack the means to do so independently. The Associate will provide essential administrative, logistical, and financial support, ensuring returns are conducted in a safe, dignified, and human rights-respecting manner. The position operates under the supervision of the Head of Programmes and Project Coordinator, contributing directly to the well-being and successful reintegration of migrants.
Responsibilities
The Protection Associate (Caseworker) is responsible for informing migrants about the Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) Programme, assessing their eligibility and willingness to participate, and identifying potential vulnerabilities. They will refer cases for appropriate services and implement mitigating measures, ensuring follow-up. The role involves assisting migrants with administrative procedures, organizing logistical aspects for safe return, including consular formalities and transportation, and liaising with relevant authorities. The Associate will also verify transport documentation, accompany migrants to airports, and ensure the return process adheres to international law and IOM procedures. A thorough understanding of Movement Operations SOPs and databases, along with professional conduct, is required.
Work Experience
Requires at least 3 years of relevant experience in migration-related projects, policy development, and capacity building. Previous experience working directly with migrants or in human rights protection activities is considered an asset. General or postgraduate studies in migration, human rights, or gender are also advantageous.
Skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience in liaison work with government authorities and international/national organizations. Excellent computer proficiency, including spreadsheet and database applications.
